His worldwide best seller ‘Think and Grow Rich’ is the result of interviewing thousands of successful entrepreneurs and 500 of the most influential men and woman of his time. Massive action is identified as one of these critical steps. When you immerse yourself in the ‘take action’ world of the successful entrepreneur and see how many balls you have to juggle at the same time, you may become overwhelmed and wonder how to get it all done. It’s simple when you impose a little hard and fast discipline on your time. Anyone running a business knows how hard it is to keep juggling those balls together with getting your products and services to your clients. A couple of tips to get you started
Stay focused – This is probably the most important thing you can do to get your ideas from vision to reality.
Eliminate the chaff – If you are going to stay focused, you must eliminate useless distractions that creep into your day.
Time Vampires – Minutes matter, all too often a vampire will stop by your open office door to chat. CLOSE THE DOOR. Open door policies do nothing more than allow your employees the opportunity to ask you to do their work and solve their problems.
Only take limited phone calls – Become unavailable to all but the most important client- give your staff a short list of people who can interrupt you. Remember there is no queue of people waiting to speak to the guru at the bottom of the mountain giving anyone and everyone a piece of the action. Position yourself as the guru at the top of the mountain. People should have to sweat, climb, crawl and wait in line for some of your precious time.
Eliminate email – Train your most important clients to contact you by fax. This forces them to crystallize their thoughts and present them to you in a logical way. If you must use email tell your clients to ask a “Yes, No, Maybe” question (one per mail) that allows you to answer in short. Also manage their expectations by saying fax is answered within 24 hours, email I check on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 16h30.
Eliminate Mail – Have your assistant open the mail, the assistant should use a red marker indicating urgent attention required, all other mail should be delegated as less urgent and handled by someone else.
Make to do lists – These must be in detail, break it down into doable chunks and tasks- delegate and hold accountable to specific deadlines and timeframes.
Give yourself deadlines – Making deadlines will help your bottom line and get things done faster.
Decide how much time each day you spend on marketing your business – If you’re still stuck with ‘my business is different’ I’m spelling it out for you again. No matter what product or service you sell, no-one gives a crap about it unless you position it in the mind of your client as “I Would be a complete idiot if I didn’t take xyz up on his offer’
We are all in the business of MARKETING period, how you market, how often you market, where you market, what you market WILL determine the longevity and success of your business.
Think benefits in the mind of the client, not features, products or services. Think Offer and Deadline. Your USP (unique selling proposition) must be laser like focused to a specific market. Above all it must answer these questions
1) Who Cares?
2) Why are you bothering me?
3) Why should I choose you above and beyond your competitors?
4) Why should I do anything now, including what I am doing now, which maybe nothing?
